A Family Day Out at Attadale Gardens

If you're visiting Lochcarron with the family and looking for a place where imaginations can roam free and nature is centre stage, look no further than Attadale Gardens. Nestled just off the A832, our grounds open up into a beautiful, peaceful setting that welcomes families of all shapes and sizes.

With plenty of fully accessible parking tucked away from the road, it’s an easy place to stop and stretch your legs. Just a short walk from the car park, you’ll find our friendly gatehouse team ready to greet you. They’ll offer tips on making the most of your visit, including where to find the toilets, baby changing facilities and our DIY café.

Maps of the garden are available for all, and younger visitors can enjoy a fun scavenger hunt following our sculpture trail. Spot as many sculptures as you can and receive a small Attadale souvenir the first time you visit.

The gardens themselves are naturally family friendly. Spacious lawns and long avenues offer the perfect chance for a runaround. There are plenty of benches and picnic spots scattered throughout, and many of the paths are pram and balance bike-friendly. With every turn of the path revealing a new area to explore, children (and grown-ups) stay curious and engaged throughout the visit.

We are open daily from 10:00 to 17:00, seven days a week, from April 1st through to the end of October. Entry is £10 for adults, with children going free. If you’re local or plan to visit more than once, our season passes offer brilliant value at just £20 per named adult, giving you unlimited visits during the open season.

Whether you have a few hours or a whole day to spend, Attadale is the perfect place to make family memories. Don’t worry about the weather either—bring your wellies and enjoy nature’s colours in the rain.

Things You Won’t Want to Miss

The woodland trail is a must for little explorers. Follow the rhododendron walk and you’ll find yourself with a stunning birds-eye view over Attadale House and out to the Isle of Skye.

Pond dipping in the lily pond is a firm favourite with younger visitors. With nets and buckets available, you can discover all sorts of pond life including newts, tadpoles and frogs.

Red squirrel sightings are another highlight. These agile little creatures are often spotted throughout the gardens, especially along the drive and near their feeding boxes. Attadale was part of a successful reintroduction programme with Trees for Life and we’re so proud of their return.

We also have two Highland cows, Sophie and Nicky, who live in their paddock right in the heart of the garden. If you’re lucky, you might catch feeding time, often in the afternoon (although it’s never on a strict schedule).

Plants are available for sale in the kitchen garden polytunnel and at the gatehouse. It’s a lovely way for kids to take home a green souvenir and start their own garden adventure.

In October, don't miss our magical fairy trail. Featuring tiny fairy homes and fun educational reading material about trees, it’s a path of discovery and delight.

Accessibility and Family-Friendly Facilities

We’re proud to offer clean, accessible toilet facilities including unisex baby changing.

We are breastfeeding-friendly and you're welcome to feed your child anywhere across our public spaces. In the DIY café there’s a comfy seat, microwave for heating baby food and a kettle. If you’d prefer a little extra privacy, just ask, we’re happy to help.

Our café is stocked with hot and cold drinks, home baking, homemade ice cream, sandwiches and soup. There is always a team member in the gatehouse, and there’s a radio in the café you can use to request assistance whenever needed.

Follow us on Facebook and Instagram to see what’s going on before you visit.

And when you do visit, please tag us in your photos. We love seeing your adventures and your posts help other families plan their trip too. #attadale
